Hey I was wondering what the law says about sports betting in California. I've read that it is illegal in the state but that no body has ever been convicted of a crime because of it. Is it safe/legal to do? Thanks for the help.

Horse race betting is legal here.
Other than that,
Is it Legal? - NO
Is it Safe? - Probably, in a small degree
At work people will put together betting pool together and that is illegal but I havn't heard of the state enforcing the law.
Same with personnal bets among friends. Legal? No. But it happens all the time.
You wanna be a bookie and make loads of money? That is probably not a very good idea because it is illegal here.
