Rio Ferdinand is ruled out of the Carling Cup final with a back injury...no other details were available at the moment.
I think this is really, really rough for us and him.
He had just gotten back, got that idiot suspension, appealed it, and could FINALLY play regularly again..and now he's injured.
I've always liked Rio, but with his injuries, and all United's defensive injuries, I was never really worried. Even when the likes or Ryan Giggs were playing back there, I believed, and I felt the missing presence of Rio, but I knew we would be fine.
That game against City, when he was back though...wow. He blew me away. His presence on the field is sorely missed when he's out, because Vidic is awesome and a true Serbian beast, but he doesn't have the captaincy and leadership that Rio carries.
I feel as though when Rio's on the field, we have more confidence and power. When the two are together, we are class, and make very few mistakes.
I don't think this is that bad for United though, because even without him, we proved that we can do fine. We dropped points, but we were able to get a few results. We do have Vidic back and hopefully with him partnered with Wesley Brown or Evans, we can still be strong in the back. I think it's worse for Rio, himself, because right as he was coming back and about to become all strong, fit, and confident, he loses out.
It's a bigger deal for England, too, because he's now the captain and he needs to get match-fit and prepared for one of the biggest competitions...ever.
Well, I wish him a speedy recovery!`
