OK, at the moment, one can't turn on Sky Sports News without seeing Mark Hughes discussing whether or not City will land a big name player.
Of course, all teams want to be signing the best players but I can't help thinking that City aren't signing the right players. Look at who they are bringing in, or trying to, all seem to be forwards in their mid to late 20's.
I imagine the boards discussion to be like;
Head scout "Our scout has found this great young Talent in North America, he's 17, defencive midfielder..."
Hughes/Purse string puller "Does he play for Barcelona?"
Scout "No, he's in North America..."
P.S.P (Purse string puller) "Is he a forward?"
S (Scout) "No, a defencive Midfielder, a few teams are trying to sign him, we may have to work hard to get him, but I think..."
P.S.P "Which teams? Inter? Man U? Chelsea? Real?"
S "No, Fenerbache are one team..."
P.S.P "Hmm, try and get a Striker, forget this kid."
S "We don't need a Striker, we have massive holes in our defence."
P.S.P "Well, try and get John Terry then, or Rio Ferdinand. I know! Jamie Carragher!"
S "Umm, I don't think they will fit into our team."
PSP "What? You scouts don't know what you're talking about. I'm scrapping the lot of you. I'm just gonna find out who Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid are interested in, and try and get in a better offer."

Anyway, back to my question. Do you really think Man City will find any success with the players they are either bringing in, or trying to. Or will the team be full of a bunch of over payed ego's which won't be able to play together?
I'm not a Man City fan, and quite honestly am neutral on them. But I think they should be trying to build a team rather than buy the best players in the world. I think players in their mid 20's are so good, because they have learnt to play with the others around them. When you take these players out of that team, and put them with a completely new team, where, in Man City's case, a number of players will be still trying to build a rapore, they will have to do it all over again. These relationships, like Torres and Gerrard, Scholes and Giggs, or Lampard and Drogba can take a few years to really click.
Anyway, I could go on for ever on this, but what's your opinion?

your last points are my points. the players they are buying are going to clash with the players already there. its going to take at least a season, maybe a few, to get a flow going.

i congratulate you for somehow making this question original amongst the thousands of "how will city do next year?" Q's asked today

Not as sucsessfull as they think. Money doesn't buy sucess. If that were the case England would be aloe mote sucessfull than they are. Having the players does not mean they are going to gel. They need to build a team, which will take a few years for the players to connect.

They'll stay rougly the same cause even though they might get the players, they still need the teamwork, which i believe man ciy does not possess and probably won't unless they get an awsome manager.

I don't think they will do that well this year. It takes time to gel as a team.

With the squad they have, I predict a top 7 finish at the least

Each match stands on its own,you have to win it.Only team players who form a tight well together squad usually do well consistently and thats what you need to be up there.Money thrown at something is not the answer,it has to be spent wisely, this is where the manager succeeds or fails. You already know what it takes for them to do the job you want, from reading your question.

Who Knows it worked for Sven his Video buys were pretty decent for the first half of the season but could not win away very much. Hughes has purchased premiership ready players and real battling players. they get back and help the midfield And defence. You look at the posts on here now by the top fours fans they are scared one may lose their god given place in the CL. if they do they will never get back as the big names will go.
